Found 80 kilometres south of Sydney, in the coastal city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, is a public research university called the University of Wollongong (UOW), otherwise also known as Wollongong University. Its numbers in 2014 stand at 30,000 students, which includes around 12,800 international students from over 130+ countries, plus an alumni base of more than 112,000, with 2,000+ academic staff.

The University of Wollongong ranked 9th in 2012’s Australian University Rankings for Excellence in Research for Australia or ERA, and is part of the top 1% for research quality worldwide, and belongs to the top 2% of the universities all over the world.

Faculties of Learning at University of Wollongong

Currently the University of Wollongong boasts five faculties – there’s Science, Medicine and Health and Social Sciences; Engineering and Information Sciences; Law, Humanities and The Arts; and Business. 

Apart from these study areas, UOW also grants its students various levels of research and academic involvement via the SMART Infrastructure Facility, which stands for Simulation, Modelling, Analysis, Research and Teaching. SMART was completed in February 2011 and is used mainly for infrastructure research and education. The Infrastructure Facility is comprised of around research laboratories regarding various infrastructure aspects like transport, energy, water and economics.
